President Kaizen Events introduced in GE made a big impact demonstrating Leadership” Walk the Talk”. Problem Solving Approach made mandatory during the operating reviews of Leadership teams made the teams to embrace the red KPIs and improve. ( thanks to Larry Culp CEO GE who is an ambassador of Lean ) . As a Lean Coach felt the strong Lean culture being embedded in to the entire team.

As an ex Toyota Manager, I was taught by my mentor to present a problem to my subordinates to solve, but not my suggestion for correcting it or else that would be their focus. They were to formulate that themselves and I was to coach and provide guidance. It is, as Saito used to say, “a battle of wits” where we needed to be challenged by their different thinking. This grows trust and, from that trust, respect.
